Prof. Dr. Ahmet Alanay
Prof Dr. Ahmet Alanay, whose research focus on child, adolescent and adult spine surgeries, graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine and finished his master education on Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine.
After starting his job in Acıbadem Health Group, Dr. Alanay has founded the Spine Health Centre in Acıbadem Maslak Hospital. In the meantime, he also gives lectures and continues his academic work in the Acıbadem University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. For his specialisation on child and adult spine defects, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Alanay has studied in Kansas University Faculty of Medicine, USA, as well as Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Alanay was a guest lecturer for a year in the Spine Defects Centre in California Los Angeles University (UCLA).
Dr. Alanay has played an important role in Turkey on the topic of spine surgeries, especially on spine defects. Among his accomplished works the commonly featured techniques include the vertebroplasty technique used in spinal fractures, neuromonitarization technique used in scoliosis surgeries, magnetic rod technique used in child scoliosis and stretch band technique used again in scoliosis surgeries.
Prof. Dr. Alanay is a globally known surgeon who has received many awards both nationally and internationally on the topic of spine surgeries. He is also a board member in the Scoliosis Research Society, the most prestigious spine association, and for long years had been the council chairman for training surgeons.
Since becoming one of the founding members of the Spine Society of Europe (SSE) and similar working groups, Prof Dr. Alanay has increased scientific productivity and became one of the leading surgeons in the world.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selda Karaayvaz
"Child, War, Migration"
Associate Professor Doctor Selda Karaayvaz, whose research areas are monitoring of child health, vaccination, adolescent health, neglect/abuse in childhood, and the children under risk, is the lecturer of social pediatrics in Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University. After her graduation from Ankara University Medical Faculty, she finished her master study in Doktor Sami Ulus Çocuk Hastanesi and her doctorate programme in Gazi University Health Sciences Institute. In addition to her published articles on childhood abuse, vaccination, and mother-child affiliation, Dr. Karaayvaz has appeared on TV programmes to share her knowledge. Being one of the writers of the book “Advanced Life Support in Childhood (ÇİLYAD) Programme”, Dr. Karaayvaz has numerous international articles about but not limited childhood lymphomas, solid tumors, the relation between peer training-sexual health in adolescent, long-term breastfeeding and SRY gene. Furthermore, her articles published in national journals include topics such as immigrant children, shaken baby syndrome, inflammatory disease in childhood, breast milk. Continuing her career at Acıbadem Health Group, Selda Karaayvaz is also the owner of the first prize in East Mediterranean Family Practice in poster category.,
Asst. Prof. Engin Deniz
Dr. Engin Deniz is a pediatric critical care specialist and is affiliated with Yale-New Haven Hospital. He received his medical degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine. He has completed his residency in Pediatrics at Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York in 2009. He has a fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. He was certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Long Island College Hospital Beth Israel Medical Center in 2014.
He currently runs a clinical trial called ‘YSM Pediatric Critical Illness Patient Registry and Biorepository’. Dr. Deniz’s research focuses on understanding the genetics of hydrocephalus, a birth defect in which fluid builds up deep inside the cavities, or ventricles, of the brain.
He is also an assistant professor of pediatric critical care at Yale School of Medicine.
Tayyar Sarıoğlu graduated from Ankara University School of Medicine in 1974. He completed his Cardiovascular Surgery residency at Hacettepe University School of Medicine. In 1984, he assumed the title of associate professor at Hacettepe University and in 1989 became a professor at Istanbul University Cardiology Institute. He studied at University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA as a special cardiovascular fellow.
He is the founding general director of Istanbul Memorial Hospital and was on duty as Project Management Leader between 1996 - 2003. He is the founder of Istanbul Cardiac Surgery Association and still works as the president of the foundation. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology, New York Academy of Science, Turkish Society of Cardiology, Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery. Currently, Dr. Sarıoğlu continues his work in the Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.
Prof. Dr. Tayyar Sarıoğlu
Oliver Muensterer, MD, PhD, Pediatric Surgeon
"Telemedicine and Telementoring in Pediatric Surgery"
Born in Canada, Prof. Muensterer obtained his medical degrees at both the University of Munich in Germany and at the University of Alicante in Spain. After postgraduate training in General Surgery at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, and a residency in Pediatrics at Duke University in Durham, NC, he returned to Munich for training in pediatric surgery. He completed his formal education with a fellowship in Pediatric Endosurgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL.
Since then, he held appointments at the University of Leipzig, the University of Alabama, as well as the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, NY. He returned to Germany in October 2014 to direct the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University Medicine of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz.
He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed articles and 21 book chapters on pediatric surgical issues. His main research focus is telemedicine and new media in pediatric surgery, pediatric foregut malformations and diseases, fetal intervention, and using multiphoton microscopy in the management of pediatric tumors and Hirschsprung disease.
Işıl Pakiş M.D, Ph.D
After graduating from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty in 1991, Işıl Pakiş finished her speciality training in Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Pathology Department in1996. She completed Marmara University Institute of Health Sciences Forensic Medicine doctorate programme between 2002 and 2006. She worked at Council of Forensic Medicine between 1997-2010 and was Histopathology Branch Manager from 2008 until 2010.Işıl Pakiş joined Istanbul Chamber of Physicians; Children’s Rights Commission in 2008 and Istanbul Chamber of Physicians; Ethical Committee in 2010. She is also head of Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University Department of Forensic Medicine since 2010.
Işıl Pakiş’s main research areas are child neglect and abuse, medical malpractice, forensic pathology. In addition to her international articles about topics such as childhood deaths due to suicide, sudden infant death syndrome, sudden deaths due to different congenital diseases, medical malpractice, bronchopulmonary dysplasia; she published more than fifty articles in Turkish. She gave many presentations about different subjects including accidental children deaths, maternal deaths due to amniotic fluid embolism, children deaths due to suicide.
Asst.Prof. Saygın Abalı
Saygın Abalı whose research areas are Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes, Auxology
studied medicine at Dokuz Eylul University in 2005. He completed his residency in Pediatrics in 2011 in Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. From 2011 to 2015 he worked as Pediatric Endocrinology Fellow at Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit at Marmara University. He worked as consultant pediatric endocrinologist in Kartal Dr. Lufti Kırdar Education and Research Hospital in Istanbul between 2015-2017. Since 2017, Dr Abalı is Asst Prof of Pediatrics at Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University and he currently works at Acıbadem Atakent Hospital.
